It is very difficult to find the happy medium in hair care of medium porosity hair. Such hair is somewhere between low and high porosity so oils for both types are suitable. It’s up to us where our hair is heading – whether it is going to have better or worse condition.
Medium porosity hair can be called normal hair. It is often the characteristic of some hair types e.g. curly hair. Products suitable for both low and high porosity hair work for medium porosity hair as well.
Choosing an oil which is suitable for your hair porosity can be troublesome. In case of low and high porosity hair it is clear but medium porosity hair can either accept every oil or reject many oils. All you can do is choose a proper oil by using error and trail method.
Oiling hair treatment for medium porosity hair
Before testing a particular oil, think where your hair porosity is heading – towards low or high porosity? Depending on the present condition of your hair, it will need fewer or more fatty acids.
Medium porosity hair leaning towards low porosity
You should choose hair oils which have larger particles and contain lots of omega-3 and omega-6 acids. Recommended oils: castor oil, sunflower oil, wheat oil, linseed oil, jojoba oil, pumpkin seed oil.
Medium porosity hair, normal
This type of porosity is characterised by slightly raised cuticles. It is hard to say which oils will be the best. Oils which contain well-balanced amount of all omega acids are the most likely to provide such hair with nourishment. Recommended oils: argan, macadamia, moringa, hazelnut, rapeseed, sesame, rice, sweet almond, olive oil.
Medium porosity hair leaning towards high porosity
The hair that is becoming high porosity absorbs large amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Highly raised cuticles mean that it is better to choose oils with large particles. Recommended oils: rice, plum, avocado, peach seed, apricot seed.
